Our education experts make every effort to ensure students and families have positive educational experiences. Smart on Schools staff currently work in Boards Of Education in the GTA and in York Region. We have worked with student ages 4-16 in both the school & clinical settings.
We have extensive experience in various settings. These range from: teaching, private counselling, assessment, individual tutoring, workshops and presentations.
Stacie Berman, M.Ed.
Stacie Berman holds a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Teaching with a specialization in Adaptive Instruction. For the past 15 years she has taught in the Toronto District School board serving diverse student populations at the elementary level. Stacie has in depth and extensive experience in Early Years literacy planning and consulting. She has facilitated professional workshops and training on topics such as assessment and evaluation, balanced literacy and booster reading. Stacie is a qualified Special Education teacher who teaches students with various learning needs. A highly organized professional, Stacie has an aptitude for working with meeting the needs of students and their families.
Marla Kierstead, M.Sc.C.Pysch.Assoc.
Marla Kierstead has a Master's of Science degree in Counselling Psychology. She is a registered Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Marla has worked with children and adolescents for 12 years in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, children's mental health facilities, school boards, and in private practice. She works with children and adolescents providing counseling and conducting psychological assessments in both elementary and secondary school settings. She has extensive experience in psychological assessment and diagnosis, particularly related to learning difficulties.
Gayle Saifert, D.C.S., RSW
Gayle Saifert is a registered Social Worker who has worked with special needs children ages 4+ for the past 15 years. Her professional experience includes psycho-social assessments, family counselling, individual counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy of children and youth with various developmental issues. Gayle has extensive experience designing and implementing social skills groups for child and youth with Learning Disabilities and Aspergers Syndrome.
Lindsay Berman, B.Ed., RSW
Lindsay Berman currently works as an Occasional Teacher with both the Toronto District and York Region school boards. Lindsay is also a counsellor/therapist in private practice since 2002. Lindsay has been working with diverse populations for many years including but not limited to adults, and adolescents. Lindsay currently works as an outside counsellor at a high school in York Region, a position he has held for the past several years. Lindsay is professional, compassionate, organized and has worked with many children and their families from various socio-economic backgrounds.
A. Ventrice, B.Ed.
Angela Ventrice holds her Bachelor's of Education with a specialist in International Languages and a certificate in counseling. For the past 17 years she has taught a variety of age levels at both the elementary and secondary levels with the York Region District School Board. Angela has a solid background in languages and curriculum planning. She has lead workshops on topics such as teaching using Instructional Intelligence, Assessment and Evaluation, and Literacy. A dedicated professional, Angela presently works at high school level facilitating pathways and career planning for students as well as providing counseling to students in crisis.
Carole Cantor, Bsc. DTATI OACCPP
Carole has a post-graduate diploma in Art Therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. Carole has completed Level One of the Play Therapy Certificate Program. Her experience includes work with children with emotional and behavioural issues at elementary schools and at the Hincks-Dell Crest Children's Mental Health Centre. Carole believes in the power of creative expression in making children's feelings accessible.
The Bundles of Books program is a volunteer, nonprofit division of SOS Educational Services. The Bundles are distributed to children who do not have books to read with at home with their families. We believe that all young children are capable of become lifelong learners and readers, given the right resources. |
